The Safe System minimises the chances for mistakes by drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and any other road users. But when prevention fails and a collision occurs, effective intervention can make the difference between life and death. It’s the aftermath of a collision that we’re going to be considering in this first episode. James Luckhurst talks to Claire Hoyland from Fire Aid, Nick Simmons from RoadPeace and Cheryl Pinner, a former police family liaison officer who’s now with the law firm Horwich Cohen Coghlan.

He also hears from Det Ch Supt Andy Cox of Lincolnshire Police, who recently made the headlines by stating that dangerous driving should afford no more leniency from judges than knife crime.
