30 years of pushing for more driver education
This week we look back over the last 30 years at the early days of what were once called driver diversion schemes – the alternatives to prosecution pioneered by certain police forces and now available across England and Wales through UKROEd and the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme.
We talked with road safety pioneers: Ian Aspinall, Karen Stringer and Neil Cunliffe and invited them to reflect on the opportunities and challenges they faced as they lay the foundations for what is now a key part of our justice system…
Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) is an annual UK-wide road safety campaign backed by government, the emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations and British businesses.
The Campaign, Managed by Projects Zero, promotes an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach – the long-term objective of which is a road traffic system free from death and serious injury.
Our aim is to provide a platform that showcases some of the best work being done around the country to promote:
- Safe Vehicles
- Safe Road Use
- Safe Speed
- Safe Roads and Roadsides
- Post Crash Care
