Project Description

Simulation exercises for road traffic collisions give UK emergency services a safe, controlled way to rehearse exactly what they will need to do when responding to a real event. By bringing police, fire, ambulance and doctors together around realistic collision scenarios, they can test joint decision-making, practise communication, refine rescue techniques and check that plans, equipment and protocols actually work under pressure.

Cardiff University’s medical school has been coordinating such exercises for six years, during which time more than 2000 trainee physicians have been through the programme, as well as more than 700 emergency service responders. The simulation day is preceded by a training seminar – we met some of the presenters and found out the purpose of their involvement.
