EDWARD goes to Westminster

Project EDWARD will once again be hosting a reception for parliamentarians and stakeholders supporting its initiatives. The event, taking place on Monday 9 December 2024, is this year sponsored by Ruth Cadbury MP and organised in collaboration with the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety.

It is designed to offer MPs the opportunity to meet partners, sponsors, academics and practitioners, with the aim of shedding light on Project EDWARD’s efforts in raising awareness about road safety nationwide and promoting “My role in the Safe System.”

Scheduled on the eve of the Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards ceremony, the reception will also welcome a selection of 2024 award winners and international guests.

This occasion serves as a platform for politicians and policymakers to broaden their understanding of global road safety best practices.

The past two years have seen similar events, with presentations from former roads minister Guy Opperman MP, Barry Sheerman MP, CC Jo Shiner (NPCC lead for Roads Policing) Lisa Townsend (National Lead on Road Safety for APCC) Sheena Hague (Director Road Safety, National Highways )and Sir Peter Bottomley MP.

Project EDWARD, managed by Projects Zero, stands as the UK’s prominent platform for showcasing road safety best practices. Supported by the government, emergency services, highways agencies, road safety organisations, and British businesses, it advocates for an evidence-led, ‘safe system’ approach, with the ultimate goal of creating a road traffic system devoid of fatalities and serious injuries.

In 2023, Project EDWARD’s week of action covered over 3,000 miles, reaching nearly 9 million Twitter users with over 60 million messages promoting “Safer Mobility, Everyone’s Responsibility.”

Additionally, it led to more than 90 articles in online news publications and received coverage on BBC and ITV regional TV.

Since the start of 2024, Project EDWARD has expanded its support to the sector, sharing successful practices from all four nations of the UK in a year-round programme of engagement, inspiring others to learn from proven strategies that work.
