Many businesses mistakenly think their duty of care is covered. It usually isn’t. Join this free breakfast seminar to uncover the hidden gaps in your work-related road risk management before it’s too late.
If your people drive for work – in vans, trucks, company cars, or even in their own vehicles – you carry a legal duty of care for every one of those journeys.
Most organisations discover the gaps in that duty at the worst possible moment. In three court cases we’ll look at, one firm was fined a total of £750,000, in another the business owners were jailed and, in a third, the employer was exonerated for having met their duty of care.
This is a series of six free regional breakfast seminars where we will show you, in one morning, exactly where you stand and, more importantly, what to do about it.
Why it matters
Driving happens away from the workplace, in ordinary vehicles, doing something most of us do every day. It’s easy to look past – until someone has to explain what your organisation did to manage the risk.
The realities of driving for work are stark:
- The #1 Workplace Killer: Driving for work is the single largest cause of workplace fatality and serious injury in the UK. More people die here each year than from falls from height and industrial accidents combined.
- Massive Public Exposure: Around 80% of fatalities and 60% of serious injuries involve members of the public. This routinely triggers sizable third-party claims, devastating reputational damage, and soaring insurance premiums.
- The Hidden Operational Drain: Gaps in management lead to expensive uninsured damage repairs, costly end-of-lease vehicle penalties, and severe vehicle off-road (VOR) disruptions that halt client deliveries.
The Financial Payoff:
Good practice doesn’t just manage risk – it drives business performance. Better managed drivers mean immediate reductions in fuel consumption, tyre wear, maintenance costs, and administrative time. These regional seminars are entirely about equipping your business to achieve these joint benefits.

Who should come
Anyone with some responsibility for people who drive for work. Many of our delegates won’t have chosen this responsibility – it will have arrived alongside a job in health and safety, operations, HR, finance, managing the office or even running the business.
You don’t need to be a fleet expert. Most people who attend won’t be.
The sessions in detail
Is this a sales pitch?
No. This event is part of the national ProjectEDWARD road safety campaign run by the Association for Road Risk Management (registered charity number 1054640) in partnership with Durham Police and Crime Commissioner Joy Allen and the North East Chamber of Commerce.
Four of our five speakers work for companies that sell services in this field. They’re here because they’re genuinely expert in their subject, and they’ve been asked to teach rather than to sell. Nobody will be pitched to from the stage.
They do however all provide services that many business owners and fleet operators rely on to help them manage risks that they couldn’t do by themselves. They’ll be available afterwards if you want to talk to them. That’s entirely your choice.
