Project Description
In September, our monthly First Friday discussion was postponed for a week as last Friday the team was at the National Driver Health Day conference at Loughborough University.

Every child should be able to make journeys safely – whether travelling in a family car, walking to school, cycling, scooting or beginning to travel independently. This session brings together Dr Elizabeth Box, Rebecca Morris of Vision Zero Communications, Caitlin Taylor and Dr Sarah O’Toole from the RAC Foundation to discuss how we can better protect children across all these journeys.
A central theme will be child passenger safety and the growing evidence for keeping young children rearward-facing for longer. The panel will draw on insights from a recent visit to Sweden hosted by child-seat specialist Axkid, exploring why extended rear-facing travel is far more established there and what practical lessons might be relevant for the UK.
The conversation will go beyond car seats to consider safer streets, school journeys, effective family communication, children’s independence and the importance of designing road systems that protect children rather than placing responsibility on them alone.
The webinar will offer useful insight for road-safety professionals, local authorities, schools, health practitioners, police, campaigners and anyone involved in supporting children and families.
