Project Description
This 60-minute discussion was hosted by Simon Turner (Driving for Better Business, Project EDWARD, ARRM) on Wednesday 2 September as part of Driver Health Week.
Driver Health And Lifestyle Medicine: Dr. Sue Law explained how practical lifestyle-medicine support can improve vocational drivers’ health, reduce sickness absence, and support safer, more resilient businesses.
Mental Wellbeing And Workplace Culture: Dr. Zoe Isaacson advised managers to identify changes in drivers’ behaviour, reduce fear around disclosure, and build a compassionate workplace culture with accessible support and early intervention.
ADHD And Driver Safety: Zoe highlighted the relationship between untreated ADHD, crash risk, medication timing, and shift planning, recommending occupational-health involvement and regular review for affected drivers.
Mental Health Education Strategy: Dr. Grant Charlesworth-Jones outlined a planned psychology-based education programme to help transport operators and drivers distinguish everyday stress from clinical conditions and develop practical resilience skills.
Driver Medical Scope And Referral: Grant and Sue clarified that the statutory D4 medical has limited coverage of mental wellbeing, so managers and clinicians should use it as an opportunity for early discussion while referring drivers to appropriate professional support.
Health Toolkit And Follow-Up Resources: Simon confirmed that attendees will receive the recording and slides, and that a free practical business-health toolkit will be released shortly to support organisations with driver-health actions.
