Project Description
Back in 2011, GEM co-funded the production of a hugely-successful video series offering simple advice on how to stay legal and safe when making way for an emergency vehicle on a ‘blue-light’ journey. Today the current suite of videos explains what to do at junctions and roundabouts, on motorways and along roads with double white lines.
During an hour of discussions and audience questions, our panel of policymakers and emergency service driving experts discuss:
- Recent or upcoming changes to legislation regarding blue light driving standards and training requirements
- Updates to legal exemptions granted to blue light drivers during emergency responses
- Differences in the rules or exemptions for different services
- Addressing common errors made by other road users when making way for emergency vehicles
- The role of the Emergency Workers (Obstruction) Act 2006 and how it impacts drivers who fail to make way for emergency vehicles
- Current legal requirements and best practices for managing driver fatigue among emergency service drivers
